SPEAKER:  Scott Myers (Luvie Owens’ son-in-law) spoke on the upcoming Winnetka Music Festival scheduled for June 23 and June 24. He mentioned the numerous local residents and organizations (including the Winnetka Park District and WXRT radio station) who are taking part in planning this Festival in an attempt to compete with other neighboring villages having similar activities and also to draw more non-residents into the Village, hopefully to shop..  Several professional “pop” bands have been scheduled to perform in various locations throughout the Village, primarily between the Village Green and Dwyer Park. Several streets will be closed at various times during the festival.  These musicians will include Chicago-area bands, as well as  groups  coming in from Michigan, Nashville, and as far away as Maine. There will be a well-known band playing on Saturday night to close the festival and its name will be announced later next month. The festival will also feature street musicians made up of accomplished local high school students and performers at the local  House of Rock. Anyone with suggestions on these “street performers” should contact chrisrintz@mac.com for  further information.  Food and refreshments (including beer and wine) will be sold in several locations and  Scott mentioned that the Village police department will be permitting legal-aged attendees of the festival  to  have open alcoholic drinks in public during the festival. All the music will be provided free of charge.  Donations to fund the festival will be solicited and accepted . Families, businesses, neighborhood groups, etc.  will be encouraged to donate $500 to get a custom made banner containing their name for display during the festival.  Scott said that there would be a need for many volunteers to work at least 2 hours during the festival and that people should go on the festival’s website for further information. That site is www.winnetkamusicfestival.com.
