On May 29 we had 34 members in attendance and no guests this week.

Bob Baker informed the members that it was not too late to make a donation to our recent fundraiser.  This is the primary source of revenue for next year’s charitable donations.

Kristen Leahy told us that the Winnetka Youth Organization would be going on their annual service trip this year.  Once again they are working for Habitat for Humanity in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.  The organization is looking for individuals to make contributions to help defray the expenses of the trip.

The program for the week was a great service opportunity lead by Barb Tubekis and Kristen Leahy.  Those in attendance put together and packed 180 sack lunches for A Just Harvest.  This organization was originally the Good News Community Kitchen, founded by the Good News Community Church and the First Congregational Church of Wilmette 30 years ago in the Rogers Park area of Chicago.  They started by serving a weekly meal with members contributing the food and serving the meal.  Today the partnership has grown to 35 religious and community organizations.  They are committed to “feeding the hungry,” which includes seniors living on a fixed income, the homeless, the unemployed and even those whose full time jobs do not pay enough to provide the basic needs for a family.  They also provide snacks for local afterschool programs and serve summer lunches.  Everyone left the meeting with a good feeling and saying we should do this more often.

Repeat reminders:
Our club will be hosting the third joint meeting of the Rotary year with the two Wilmette Rotary Clubs on June 19th at 6:00 p.m. at the Winnetka Community House.  We will not have a noon meeting on the 19th.  The guest speaker for the evening will be Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart.  We hope to have an excellent turnout of our own members.

The following week, June 26, we will once again not have a noon luncheon meeting, but will meet that evening for our Installation Dinner.  It will be an opportunity to thank Eric Birkenstein for his leadership this past year and induct Bob Baker as our new president.  It will be Bob’s second time around as president.
