Meeting Recap 2/16
The attendance totaled 26 including our speaker.  There we no ☹ outside guests this week. Anne Smith was present representing the Chamber of Commerce.

A few of the key announcements that were made included setting the evening of Wednesday, April 5 as a multi-club meeting that our club will be hosting at the Community House.  There will not be a Thursday lunch meeting on April 6.  Our club will be hosting the Wilmette Harbor club, the Wilmette Noon club and the Glencoe club.  Keep tuned in for more details as we approach the date.  It was also announced that two of our members would be honored at the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce Annual Recognition Lunch on April 12th.  Jean Wright will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award and Robert Smith will be the Winnetka Park District Honoree of the Year.  Our annual Kids Against Hunger project is right around the corner, March 11th.  Make sure you have signed up to work a shift and/or made a donation.

The day’s speaker was Tim Padgett who is the founder and CEO of the Pepper Group, a marketing firm.  The main emphasis of Tim’s presentation was the important role that an organization’s culture plays in the success of the organization.  Tim is an admirer of the Cubs’ manager, Joe Madden for the atmosphere he was able to create with the team.  There is going to be a lot of competition for great employees and also for good clients. His human resource goal could be summed up with the phrase:  “Attract Them, Hire Them & Keep Them.”

Tim stated that the culture is reflected in the organization’s values, purposes, vision and mission.  He gave many examples of what companies can do to create at warm and welcoming atmosphere where the culture leads to improved employee retention as well as client retention.  This usually leads to greater profitability for the company.  Tim reported that some companies set up their own in-house restaurant and movie review board where employees are encouraged to post their own reviews.  He also believes that employees must have fun and management should help facilitate that by encouraging after-hour groups to engage in social activities e.g., book clubs, theater outings, Sporting events outings or participation, etc.  The presentation was well received

On March 23 the Club will present its annual grants from our Foundation.  The following organizations will be the recipients of this year’s awards:
