Laurie Petersen
Our own internationally-recognized Crow Island School

Crow Island School is a National Historic Landmark, visited by architects and educators from all over the world. It is the physical embodiment of the principles of Progressive Education as articulated by Carleton Washburne. The design was a collaboration between the Chicago firm of Perkins, Wheeler & Will and internationally renowned architects Eliel and Eero Saarinen. Laurie Petersen will present a slide lecture with current and historic photos, and she’ll tell us what makes this school so special.

Laurie Petersen is the editor of the third edition of the AIA Guide to Chicago and a longtime docent at Crow Island. Her work on the school’s Stewardship Committee included helping to create a virtual tour of the building.
