The meeting was called to order by both Co-chairs Barb and Patti. There were 17 participants including guests Ron Bernardi and Matt Butler. Matt and Michael Goldenberg are approved to become members at the next meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Liz Taylor is celebrating a birthday; and Robert Mardirossian added together his 28 years as a Rotarian and his 69th birthday to get to 97, which he then rounded up to a $100 contribution to Rotary. It was announced that Amy Skalinder’s father recently passed away. Patti and Bob Baker are going to clean out the Rotary closest at the WCH in case anyone wants to help them. Rich mentioned that the Operation Warm Benefit is only 3 weeks and so far 65 tickets have been sold but he is hoping that can be doubled—there’s lots of great silent/live auction items including dinner at Sophie’s, Bears tickets and a bicycle. Sylwia, Patti and Robert reminded everyone of the Glencoe Garden Club Project which is the first Thursday in October—it includes lunch and takes about 1 ½ hours but bring your own boots and no loafers!!
HAPPY BUCKS; Patti gave since the Northwestern’s upcoming football game against Miami of Ohio is scheduled for 6:30 pm which is after most fans have had their “happy hour”!! Barb was happy to have finally finished preparing her mother-in-law’s home for sale; Tony gave for his grandson getting married—but also mentioned experiencing the “best and worse of times” when he had to attend the funeral of a very close friend and associate.
DIG N GRIN: Fred presented some ”Zen Sarcasm”—Be modest and be proud of it; if everything is coming your way, you must be in the wrong lane; and everyone has photographic memory, it’s just that some of us don’t have the film.
GUEST SPEAKER SYLWIA PACYK, CLUB MEMBER AND ASSISTANT BRANCH MANAGER OF NORTHVIEW BANK & TRUST IN NORTHFIELD:
At the start of her presentation Sylwia passed out a 24 page FDIC PARTICIPANT GUIDE entitled “Protecting Your Identity and Other Assets.” Sylwia also prepared a summary for use by our Rotary members in protecting their identities and other assets; the summary is divided & copied into the next two Bulletin stories this week.
The members engaged in a very informative discussion after Sylwia’s presentation, after which Barb adjourned the meeting with the recitation of the Rotary 4 Way Test.
