Announcements:
- Our 11 member Winnetka-Northfield Foundation Board awarded annual grants to 10 non-profits. See the list of recipients in the article below.
- Members may still make additional donations, which are eligible for matching money. The Foundation will match up to $200 in additional contributions any member makes to any of the 10 non-profits this year. So if you donate an extra $200 thru the Foundation, it will be matched and a total of $400 additional funds will be given to that organization. Please contact Rich Lalley if you would like to participate in the matching opportunity.
- Fred Schwimmer made a distribution from his IRA to support Operation Warm and Warm Soles.
Dig ‘N Grin: Greg Nelson taught us a trick to get 100% participation for family holidays.
Presentations: Two organizations receiving annual awards from our Foundation gave us updates on their operations and summarized the challenges they overcame in the last year:
- The Winnetka Youth Organization has many of the same challenges as the other two youth organizations on the North Shore (Wilmette & Glencoe). Due to COVID restrictions, all three have had to repurpose their dedicated spaces, and consequently had lower in-person participation statistics, but also launched successful virtual programs. John Thomas reviewed some of the funding sources for all 3 - including park district support & PPP loans.
- The Volunteer Center produced a guide of special resources for local Non-profits during COVID. Barb Tubekis shared the story of how they decided to provide masks for first responders. She also announced their 3/11/21 Benefit theme centered around 4 ‘superhero’ honorees. You can read about the event and these 4 special people at their website link http://www.volunteercentervirtual.com
