President Bill called the meeting to order at 12:15.   Christina shared a quote from Michael Jordan.  Heather led us in the Pledge.

Visiting Guests and Rotarians: Patti shared that the only guest is Joan Harris, who lives in Northbrook and is interested in joining a Rotary Club.
Anniversaries: Laura Cunningham (1 year), Anna Cohen Helfman (2 years), Ned Meisner (7 years). No birthdays this week.
Announcements:   Bill asked Heather to come forward to receive a Paul Harris x3 pin.
Our annual benefit is coming up on June 1 – RSVP NOW! Please bring a bottle of wine or 6 pack of craft beer next week for the auction.
Our annual contribution to The Rotary Foundation is due before June 30. President Bill has set a $10,000 goal and we are less than halfway there. Every club member should contribute to TRF annually.
If you’re on Facebook and see a post from our club – please share it. Rich will post our upcoming program.
Looking for club members to march in the 4th of July Parade. Contact President Bill.
Patti passed a signup for the Music Festival for volunteers. More info to come on time and location.
Rich announced that District 6400 is once again sponsoring a tailgate at the Cubs/Brewers game in Milwaukee on Sept 7. This will once again benefit veterans living with PTSD. We can attend or purchase tickets for veterans to attend.
Happy Bucks:  Barb gave a buck for her successful Volunteer Center fundraiser the night before.
Marie gave $10 for 10 years of Game of Thrones.
Mark Schusteff gave a buck in celebration of his eldest daughter who just graduated from college and is teaching in Kenya for 6 weeks.
Tom Nash gave a buck for his son graduating from college.
Tony gave a buck for his grandson graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dig N Grin: Joe Fell shared a series of (somewhat painful) one-liners.
Speaker: Our speaker was Heather Conway from Kaehler Luggage. She has been with Kaehler for 29 years and is a self-confessed packing nerd. She showed us how she packs for her husband, a professional musician who travels all over the world, and for trips that her family takes. (She is a folder, not a roller).
Heather recommends packing folders to compartmentalize outfits and types of clothing. She showed us how efficiently a men’s suit will fit into a packing folder, how to pack for a week-long trip in a carry-on bag, and reminded us that we need to minimize our shoe count to save space (2 pairs for men, 3 for women). Plan outfits that can be worn twice.
The best-selling luggage in the store is Tumi. She prefers a Briggs and Reilly bag.
Heather Higgins won the raffle, but did not draw the winning card.
President Bill adjourned the meeting at 1:30.

Every Rotarian Every Year- Support The Rotary Foundation- Club Update

As the 2018-19 Rotary Year nears its conclusion, please join the millions of beneficiaries of projects funded by The Rotary Foundation in thanking our members who have honored their commitment of Every Rotarian, Every Year, contribute to The Rotary Foundation's Annual Programs Fund.

With a bit over one month to go, our club members have donated a total of $4,216 in the 2018-19 Rotary Year, 40% of our goal this year of $10,000.

Please thank these 8 Rotarians for already making their annual contribution, especially those in bold who are Paul Harris Fellows:

Wes Baumann, Connie Berman, David Birkenstein*+, David Grant*, Heather Higgins, Rich Lalley+, Rodger Morris*, Lee Padgitt, Heidi Sibert, Fred Schwimmer, Barb Tubekis, Patty Van Cleave, Carl Yudell
* signifies a Major Donor signifies Paul Harris Society ($1,000 per year)

There are many reasons to give to the The Rotary Foundation:

  • Contributions support humanitarian and educational projects initiated and run by Rotary Clubs and Districts in six areas of focus- Disease prevention and treatment, maternal & child health, education & literacy, water and sanitation, economic & community development and peace & conflict resolution.  Learn more by reviewing the Foundation’s annual report.
  • Contributions come back to support projects of our club's projects, like our coats for kids, Kids Against Hunger and International grants projects like our Farm to Table eco-agribusiness project in Ecuador, the water and sanitation projects we helped fund for schools in Guatemala and Kenya, and the digital x-ray/community health clinic project organized by District 6440. This year, we received over $3,500 for our Kids Against Hunger project! But we must give to receive.
  • Charity Navigator gives The Rotary Foundation its highest “Four Star” rating, giving it a score 100 out of 100.
  • The Association of Fundraising Professionals named The Rotary Foundation the World's Outstanding Foundation of 2016!
  • Giving to The Rotary Foundation is an easy way for you to participate in Rotary’s service work beyond our club, providing you a personal connection to this great organization and the good it does throughout the world.
It’s easy to give.  You can donate with a check or credit card at lunch; you can send a check to “WNRCF” (mark TRF in the memo line) to our club at 620 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka; you can donate via PayPal by clicking here, or you can donate directly to The Rotary Foundation at www.rotary.org or by calling 866-976-8279. One very convenient way to give is by making a recurring monthly gift on your credit card or from your checking account, which you can set up on Rotary’s website.

If you have not already supported The Rotary Foundation this year, please do so now.

If you have any questions about The Rotary Foundation or how to give, contact Rich Lalley.
