Meet in Evanston this Thursday - not at WCH!!!!!
Meeting Notes October 31

The meeting was called to order at 12:17 by Co-President Moha.

Patti shared a contemplation for peace in the days ahead as we approach Election Day.

David Grant led us in the pledge.

We have two visitors, both prospective members, visiting today: Michael Ambrose has completed three visits and will be inducted soon, and Thomas Applegate, new ED of CCNS, who will be joining with a Corporate Membership.

-- Our meeting next week is at Rotary International in Evanston. Those interested in having lunch can meet in the cafeteria in the basement at 12:15. The tour begins at 1:30 and is 1.5 hours long.

--Rotary International Conference is in Calgary next year.

--Our Thanksgiving food packing for Good News Partners will be on November 21. Donations are encouraged on the Club website. Shoppers will shop on the 20th at 4:00PM. Note that this year we did not receive District Matching Funds, so all donations count!!!

--The New Trier Swing Choir will make their annual visit on December 5. Robert encouraged us to bring guests to have REALLY good attendance for this special event.

--The Wilmette Club makes sandwiches for Connections for the Homeless on the first Tuesday of the month. See their site for more details.

--Our speaker on November 14 will be Mariana Alfar from Wilmette, who has an amazing personal story to tell, and was also just nominated as our District Governor for 2026-27. Rich and Tony both spoke in support. David Grant called Mariana a “Super Rotarian” and said “Don’t miss it”!

Happy Bucks:

--Tony shared that at 12:12 on Friday morning, he will turn 90.

--Rich is happy that he received a check for $3,000 from the Highland Park Community Foundation. These are matching funds from our Operation Warm fundraising.

-- Debra had a birthday on the 30th. We sang Happy Birthday to Debra AND Tony!

--Barb offered a donation to the Foundation in honor of Tony’s birthday, plus $10.

Dig N Grin: Barb offered some interesting Halloween history.

Program:   Bridget Lewis, ED at Volunteer Center, shared information about the work that her organization does. She emphasized the synergy of missions between VC and Rotary.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:23 by Moha, with all of us reciting the Four Way Test.

Share Your Bounty

Continuing our club's long standing Thanksgiving tradition, we will once again partner with the Volunteer Center to provide post-holiday groceries for families in transitional housing who are served by Good News Partners in Chicago's North of Howard neighborhood. We will purchase groceries in bulk at Costco before our meeting on Nov 21, so please donate by November 17.

Your gifts provide post-holiday groceries to these families in need. Donate by credit card or bank transfer here, or mail a check made payable to WNRCF to Rotary Club of Winnetka Northfield, 620 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka, IL 60093.

We hope to provide over 100 bags of groceries, and have a fundraising goal of $2,500.

Donate here, or bring a check or credit card to a lunch meeting.
