The meeting in the Winnetka Community House was opened at 12:18 by President Bill Leske. An interesting Thought for the Day came from Robert Mardirossian before the pledge of allegiance was led by Connie Berman. Representatives from member agencies were John Muno (Park District), Mike Landers (Community House), Ann Smith (Chamber of Commerce) and Christina Gikas (WYO).
There were five visitors and 28 members present. Visitors were Carolyn Kambich, Casey Frances, Lynne Levernier, Karen Templeton and Mary Birkenstein. After a Thought for the Day was given by Robert Mardirossian, lunch was served at 12:20 and the meeting then started at 12:45.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Bill noted David Grant and Mike Shelton’s Rotary anniversaries. A variety of announcements included:
- Mary Bak, Asst. District Governor told us of a survey soon to be seen by all of us and asked that we take the time to respond to it.
- Felicia O’Malley read a heartwarming thank-you note from an Operation Warm recipient
- Robert Mardirossian thanked the catering crew for the special holiday meal
DIG AND GRIN- Wes Baumann related an anecdote about why the nativity scene could never have been in Washington DC because they never would have found the three wise men. The assembly gave solid applause for this witty endeavor.
SPEAKER – Our entertainment for this Holiday meeting was, as has been the case for many years, the New Trier Swing Choir. Introduced by Wes Baumann, this New Trier H.S. group is led by Nathan Landes and had 12 young ladies and 9 young men singing a cappella. All the students are Juniors or Seniors. They sang a variety of Christmas oriented songs and medleys ranging from Jingle Bells Rock and Deck the Halls to Dance of the Sugar Plums. They closed with the traditional Jingle Bells.
The meeting closed at 1:28 with a recitation of the Rotary 4-way pledge.
